ICHP2007 - 3nd International Conference on Polyphenols and Health -

MESSAGE

Dear Friends and Colleagues

On behalf of the organizing committee, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 3rd International Conference on Polyphenols and Health at the Kyoto International Conference Center, Kyoto, Japan, November 25th -28th, 2007.

In recent years, much attention is internationally being denoted to polyphenols and health. Augustin Scalbert initiated International Conference on Polyphenols and Health in Vichy, France four years ago. It really stimulated and encouraged many people engaging in polyphenols on human health. The 2nd Conference at Davis, United States, was also a true success, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Andrew Waterhouse and Cesar Fraga who organized this really fruitful conference. Nowadays, polyphenols are recognized as essential functional food factors and prevailed from the dining tables to medicinal uses. However, more scientific evidence should be required for understanding the optimal levels of their intake and the safety as well as the functionality. We believe 3rd Conference is necessary to discuss these subjects among the participants who are key contributors to the fields.
I am very honored to organize 3rd Conference in Asia, as this means the polyphenol research is internationally developing. The themes of this meeting include: basic mechanism of biological function, clinical effect on cancer and other life-style related diseases, epidemiological and intervention studies, characterization as foods and pharmaceuticals, benefits and risks, and so on.
Plenary lectures, symposia and exhibition held on November 28th are cooperated with International Conference on Food Factors for Health Promotion (ICoFF2007). You will have an opportunity to meet and discuss with the leading scientists in the filed of functional food factors on this special day.
Your host city, Kyoto, maintains the heritage and traditions of its over one-thousand year reign as the cultural heart and political capital of Japan. I hope you all attend this unique conference and enjoy the pleasant stay in Kyoto.

February 2007

Junji Terao
President of Organizing Committee
